Life is a lot more fun when shared with a best friend.

August 8, 2008

Hopefully some of you can relate to this but I was fortunate to have a BEST friend while growing up. I really don't know if there is a definition for a best friend although in my dictionary it would be:
*someone who calls your mom and dad, "mom and dad"
*someone who always thinks your right (except when its really necessary to let you know that your right is going to get you both in a lot of trouble).
*someone who is willing to be as spontanious as you.
*someone who enjoys spending time with you, in fact doesn't plan anything without you.
*As you get older, always has time to listen to your heartache stories yet be there at all hours to celebrate the good news.
*someone who is more concerned that you make the club you are trying out for than themselves.
*someone who is willing to get into a bit of trouble (just for fun)
*someone who will try new things with you and laugh with you not at you.
*someone who makes you a better person.
*someone who will pray for you without being asked to.
*someone who will always love you just for the person you are.
*someone no matter how many years pass away and how far apart you may be and how different you have become will still call you their BEST friend.

I could go on and on but that is a good summary. This past week I spent a few hours having lunch with my best friend. The friend I met in my seventh grade spanish class on the first day of junior high. We pretty much didn't learn a whole lot of spanish that year but we sure learned a lot about friendship. One of the first things we learned was that together we could not only conquer jr. high we could just about rule over the school (or so we thought). From that first day of Jr. high until the last day of high school we relied on one another for every decision we made. That included the clothes we wore, the hairstyle we chose, the makeup we tried, the boys we dated, the jobs we took (it had to be at the same place), the classes we took and best of all how to have fun in life and still be a great kid.

I owe a lot to my best friend without her I wouldn't have near the crazy stories to share or the happy memories. Because of her I could wake up every day and smile in fact when I think of her even today I burst out laughing. Some of my greatest memories are: the time I finally made her drive (her car) and she stalled in the middle of the busiest intersection of town, I wasn't embarrassed at all (I was slumped way down in the passenger seat), or the time she learned to drive a motorcycle, wish we video cameras back then, or the time we snuck out of her house in the middle of the night to go the the 7 eleven only to have my parents pull in from a late movie.
Because of my best friend I never had to feel left out or alone.

Many years have past since the last day of high school and we have definitely gone in different directions over the years, but as I sat across from her the other day I realized she still fits every definition and the most important is we still love each other just for the person we are. She will always hold that place in my heart reserved for the best friend. Thank you Julie!
